We had 12 members, a very solid turnout, for our Special Game Day in Apex Fasteners:

Matt Cicero and Eric Visnowski paired up to playtest some fixes of The “Wolves Last Tooth” from our Melee Pack. They got through two playings and made good progress.

Dave Rosner’s Americans fell to Ed Esparza’s Germans in the Deluxe scenario “Another Day Another Field”.

Dave Kocot’s Americans defeated Kevin Kiff’s Germans in the Dispatches scenario “Looking for Trouble”.

Sal Palaez’ Germans took down Blair Bellamy and Kyle Li' Americans in the classic Paratrooper scenario “Silence That Gun.” Blair and Kyle then paired up for the SK scenario “Early Battles”, but ran out of time and called it a draw.

And my Japanese outlasted Mike Soffa and Scott Thompson’s Chinese in the AP scenario “The Generalissimo’s Own.” Scott got called into work shortly after we were underway, so Mike was on his own for most of the game. I must say, this scenario is a blast. And like all Japanese v. Chinese scenarios, there’s not a lot left on the board by the end of play. Mike played a great game, right down to the end, but got behind in the tank battle, and those CVP’s probably cost him the game. We both had a great time. I would happily play this one again as either side.

It seems that almost every Game Day Blair Bellamy volunteers to take the newer players under his wing, and gives them a tutorial with the Starter Kit. So for this Game Day we recognized Blair for his special effort by awarding him a copy of “Decision at Elst” and a round of applauds from the members present. New member development is the lifeblood of any organization, including ours. So on behalf of the entire Club, thank you Blair!

For lunch we traveled to Old Monrovia for an excellent family style Mexican meal at Rudy’s. And because we didn’t wrap up until after midnight, we didn’t have many dinner options. So we ended up at Denny’s. Notice I said ‘ended up’… nobody goes to Denny’s, you end up there. But the food wasn’t bad considering, and the waitress joked around with us quite a bit. Ok, it wasn’t Bob’s Big Boy, but the company was the same and that’s what counts.

On behalf of the members I want to extend a special thanks to Matt Cicero and Bryan Earll for opening their place of business to us. It was greatly appreciated and worked out perfectly.
