We had an outstanding turnout on Saturday for the July edition of our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights in Burbank, with 14 members and friends in attendance:
In the battle of the Reinkings, David’s Germans defeated brother Larry’s Americans in “Happy Valleyâ€.
And in another brother vs. brother scenario, Sal Palaez, playing the Americans, defeated his brother Jaime’s Germans in the Starter Kit scenario “Retaking Viervilleâ€.
Mike Soffa’s Finns defeated John Lehman’s Russians in the classic scenario “Fighting Withdrawalâ€.
In a battle that lasted until they turned the store’s lights off, Dan Plachta’s Germans fell to Blair Bellamy’s Russians in “Showtime.â€
Phil Seymour’s Germans defeated Dave Nicholas’ Americans in “Counterattack at Carentanâ€.
And in the battle of the late arrivals, Eric Visnowski and Dave Rosner paired up as the Germans against me and Chip Wertenberger as the Russians in the classic Deluxe scenario “Preparing the Wayâ€. All four of us have played this scenario before, but probably not since the Clinton administration. This scenario pits two full German rifle companies supported by six Panthers against two full Russian rifle companies supported by four door knocker AT Guns and three T34-85’s. We managed to get through 4 turns and had a ball, with the Russians falling steadily back to their mid-board MLR, and neither side taking heavy casualties. We decided to write everything down to we could resume the battle at a later date.
We made our trek to Larry’s for our traditional chili dog lunch, served by the ever lovely and charming Veronica. After we wrapped up play, a gang of the survivors made their way to Bob’s Big Boy for our traditional late dinner. We had a great turnout and a ton of fun. It was another super day for SoCalASL!
