We had a total of 7 players, including one new guy, for the July edition of our ASL Game Day at All Ways Gaming in Chatsworth:
Jim Svette's Brits defeated Dan Plachta's Germans in “Lion in the Field”.
Dave Franco scored a win as the Germans over Blair Bellamy's Allies in “Priority Target”.
And Eric Visnowski's Germans defeated my Americans in “Deadly Assumptions.” I really like this scenario; it has an interesting set up mechanism and a cool board configuration. It starts with American tanks being ambushed by some Germans in a village, followed by a reinforced company-size assault by some well-led American Infantry. I was feeling pretty good as my tanks escaped the ambush without a loss, and my infantry attack went in smoothly. Then came a sniper attack on my 9-2 led 3 squad kill-stack. Deadly sniper, four units in the hex, of course it kills the 9-2. All 3 squads fail their LLMC with ELR failures and run for the rear, with both .30 Cals. Even though I was able to get an 8-1 over there (using a voluntary break), the wind had gone out of my assault and I was never able to put together a cohesive attack to drive the Germans out of their stone buildings. I called it in Eric's favor on turn 4. We turned it around for a second playing, but ran out of time on turn 2. Eric and I had great fun (as we always do), and we both thought we would definitely try this one again.
As I mentioned above, we were joined by another new player, John Leggat, who is getting back into the game after a long absence (sounds familiar). He sat in on Dan and Jim's game, and said he'd see us next month in Burbank.
As we've done in previous months, we called in our order to San Carlo Deli, which saved quite a bit of time and frustration, and even got to eat indoors. The survivors retired to The Habit for a late dinner. What a great way to spend a hot, smokey Saturday.
