As expected, we had another great turnout at Apex Fasteners on Saturday, with 12 members plus a cameo by Bryan Earll.

Scott Thompson's Americans defeated Mike Soffa's Germans in “Assault on Baerendorf”.

James Quinn's Scots fell to Dave Nicholas' Germans in “Scots at a Standstill”.

Blair Bellamy's Germans defeated Jim Svette's Kiwi's in “Mercury Rising”.

Sal Palaez's Germans defeated Dave Lewis' Greeks in “Unsung Heroes”.

Eric Visnowski and Matt Cicero did a playtest of “Eau De Cologne” for our upcoming Melee Pack.

And Bill Yuen took the Belgians against my attacking Germans in “Belgian Blitzkrieg” from the most recent Journal. I had played this scenario as the Belgians and really enjoyed it. I knew we were going to have a fun game. Bill kept one squad and two half squads in the front building, and they were able to hold out until turn three, preventing the sudden death German victory. Bill had a good set-up and wasn't afraid to keep his troops in the front tree-line, hitting my oncoming Germans. I felt pretty good about my attack, and brought on 3 elite squads with LMG's and an 8-0 on the German right. I saw an opening on the right, and rushed my flank force through what I thought was a gap in Bill's line, until they ran into the Belgian AT Gun. Although that Gun broke my flanking force they really didn't kill anything, and I was eventually able to reassemble them for another attack. But the surprise was disruptive to my timing, and starting on turn 4 I felt I was falling behind time-wise. My frontal assault eventually blasted their way through the center, and a critical hit by my mortar eliminated the AT Gun. That allowed my Germans to slip into two hexes of the 2nd victory building just as the Belgian reinforcements were coming up. The fight came down to the final CC phase, when my Germans could not clear out the last hex of the 2nd victory building. It was a great, hard-fought game with heavy casualties on both sides. Bravo to Bill on a well-earned win! I like this scenario a lot, and would happily play this one again as either side.

We returned to the excellent Mexican place across the street for lunch, and the survivors made their way to BJ's Brewhouse for a late dinner. It was another awesome day at Apex with an outstanding turnout. Thanks again to Matt and Bryan for opening their office for us!
