We had six members in attendance for the July edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology. Scott Thompson kibitzed and stayed for lunch. Wayne Clark stopped by to say hello, but couldn't stay due to family considerations. That left us with four players:
Blair Bellamy's Americans defeated Dave Lewis' Germans in “Over Open Sights”.
And Dave Nicholas took the Brits against my Germans in the Journal 11 scenario “Riding to the Rescue”. This scenario is set in France, 1940. A company of Germans supported by two PSW 222's have surrounded a depleted company of Brits. The Brits have to break out, with the help of three Mk VIC's and later an A13 Mk II and an A9 CS. Nick made a good try of it, despite some sucky dice, but I think this scenario is pretty hard on the Brits, and we called it a German win on turn 6. (The ROAR has this scenario 65% pro-German.) Because we finished fairly quickly, we flipped it around and tried it again. I tried a first-turn risk-it-all attack that failed when a third of my force broke and ELR'd on turn 1. We decided it wasn't worth continuing at that point.
We both liked this scenario a lot. Its fun, quick playing and has interesting forces and an interesting board configuration. But I think it's pretty demanding on the British player.
We made our usual trip to The Hat for lunch, and the survivors adjourned to Chili's for a very pleasant, late dinner. The new Gameology location is shaping up steadily, which was nice to see.
