We had seven members in attendance for the July edition of our SoCalASL Game Day at Gameology. Only we didn't play at Gameology. Much to our surprise the store was closed for the 4th. Luckily Matt Cicero stepped up and offered to host us at Apex Fastener's new offices in Irwindale.

Matt and Scott Thompson paired up to work on a playtest of my RB scenario “Lynchpin”.

Blair Bellamy and Dave Nicholas paired up to work on a playtest of “Cold Caudron”. Both playtests moved these scenarios forward very nicely.

And Eric Visnowski and Dave Kocot took the Americans against my Germans/Italians in the classic scenario “Recon in Force”. I deployed two Italian squads and HIP'd them on second level of the right-hand victory building, along with 2 squads at the ground level. I put 3 Italian squads with all their MG's and the 8-1 leader as close as possible to the German set-up area, and put the remaining Italian squads in a blocking position between the two victory buildings. My set-up on the German side was pretty conventional, with all the Germans in their victory building except for one, with the MMG and 8-1, on the German far left to disrupt the American attack in that direction. My plan went perfectly, with the Italian reinforcements easily keeping the Americans out of the German victory building. The Italian victory building, with only 4 squads, held out until turn 5. But in the end, thanks to Special K's careful accumulation of Italian prisoners, the Americans won on casualties. This is a fun scenario that plays quickly considering its size. We all had a great time.

Because of the holiday, we had a hard time finding a place to eat lunch, and finally settled on Jimmy John's sandwich shop. The survivors had an excellent late dinner at BJ's. It was a fun and productive day of ASL.
