We had seven members in attendance for the July edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology.

Dave Nicholas’ Greek and Anzac force defeated Blair Bellamy and John Lehman’s Germans in “Mercury Rising”.

In a tenacious fight that last all day, Eric Visnowski’s Germans defeated Dan Plachta’s Brits in “Bosq BBQ”.

And Chip Wertenberger took the Germans against my Brits in the Dispatches scenario “Hold the Brickworks”. I am usually a big fan of Dispatches From the Bunker, but this scenario was something of a disappointment. It's one of the those scenarios that looked good on paper, but was a frustration to play. Both sides get OBA, but with scarce ammo; there's heavy rain at start, which is pretty all the cover the German has while attacking over open ground; and aside from two small stone buildings, there's very little cover the Brits either. We called it a wrap when it was obvious Chip's Germans had taken too much damage to win. We both felt this one was a bit pro-British. We then set up “Point to Make”, with Chip taking the defending Germans against my attacking Brits. But we ran out of time with the game about half over, and called it a draw.

We had met Chip when we did our ASL outreach program at Gamex in May, and he contacted me earlier this week asking about the Gameology Game Day. Turns out, he lives only about 10 minutes away from me, and I gave him a lift. Chip is a veteran player who playtested some of the original ASL products back in the day. It's great to have him join us.

We had our usual fine lunch at The Hat in the mid-afternoon. When we returned, the place was becoming overrun with Magic the Gathering players for a release tournament. But Kevin, the store owner, took care of us and gave us some space in another part of the store so we weren't squeezed out. That was going above and beyond in my opinion. We wrapped up around 10:00 PM.
