We had five members for our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights. Stance Nixon and Dave Nicholas paired up for “Confusion Reigns”, with Stances Americans defeating Dave's Germans.
And that left Scott Thompson, who need to leave early, paired with Eric Visnowski as the Germans against my Russians in “Parry and Strike” from Out of the Attic. Eric and I previously had a barn-burner playing of this scenario, and now we took opposet sides. The German attack made good progress on the first two turns, but they lost an MA on one of their Panthers. Eric's attack on the Russian right overran my positions and was threatening the hill from that side. On turn 3 the Russian armor reinforcements arrived. I pushed two of the IS-2's up onto the hill, and the 3rd around to the Russian left, to threaten to crash through the woods on that side if the Germans didn't keep and eye on it. I backed it up with a T34, and pushed 2 more T34's up the road in front of Eric's flank attack. I knew they would die there, but it would buy me the one additional turn I needed to get the IS-2's to 2nd level. The remaining T34's I positions in good reverse slope position to hit as many approach hexes as possible.
In the end, it came down to a last-turn bum's rush of the final hill hexes. My Russians were able to kill the final Panther Eric needed to hold the last hill hex in the last fire phase. Although my Russian infantry had to rout out, Eric didn't have an MMC to advance in for control, resulting in a Russian victory and another barn-burner playing.
Really, if you haven't played “Parry and Strike” you need to. It's very balanced on the ROAR and fun as hell to play.
We hit The Habit for lunch, and Stance's wife Cheryl joined us for dinner at Hoff's Hut. I'd never been there, and enjoyed it. We wrapped up around 11:00 PM. Thanks again to Stance Nixon for hosting us. It's a great venue and we had plenty of room.
