We had 8 members for the March edition of our ASL Game Day at All Ways Gaming in Chatsworth.
In the 'battle of the pony tails' former WCM Champion Dan Plachta's Germans defeated reigning WCM Champion Phil Seymour's Russians in “Shattered Bone and Burning Flesh”.
David Nicholas' Partisans defeated Peter Strand's Germans in the Deluxe scenario “The Men From Zadig”.
James Quinn's Germans defeated Mike Soffa's Russians in “Silesian Interlude”.
And Eric Visnowski took the Russians against my Germans in the Schwerepunkt scenario “Cornered Beasts”. This is a cool scenario. The Russians are defending a town in the early days of Barbarossa, with a couple of platoons of infantry backed by two OT-133 flame tanks and three formidable KV-2's. The KV's have HE only, but with a 16 T.K. who needs AP. The Germans have a reinforced infantry company, backed by three PzIII F's, three PzIII H's, and a couple of half tracks. The Russians need only to keep one MMC or tank in good order next to a road. Both sides have strengths and weaknesses and this scenario is a challenge to both sides. The Germans have an interesting option of calling in air support (a '39 Stuka) on turn 4, but shortening the scenario by a turn. Basically our Russians and Germans spent 6 turns punching each other in the face in a swirling battle among the buildings. But in the end, EV ran out of troops, and my Germans just barely prevailed. This scenario was exciting and challenging from beginning to end, and we had a blast. We would both happily play this one again as either side.
We had our usual excellent lunch on the patio at San Carlo Deli, and the survivors adjourned to The Habit for our traditional late dinner. It was an awesome day and great fun for everyone!
