We had six members, plus a cameo from Mike Soffa for our March Game Day at JJ’s Game Lounge in Chatsworth on Saturday.
Geoff Coward’s Americans fell to Eric Visnowski’s Germans in “Road to St. Loâ€.
Dave Nicholas and Ed Esparza paired up for “Extracurricular Activityâ€. In the first playing Dave’s Russians defeated Ed’s Hungarians. They switched sides, and in the second playing Dave’s Hungarians squeezed out a down-to-the-last CC win over Ed’s Russians.
And Dave Rosner and I paired up for the Deluxe scenario “It Don’t Come Easyâ€, featuring Easy Company of Band of Brothers fame. This scenario has been on my play list for a long time, and it was one of the only scenarios on the WCM mini tournaments play list that I hadn’t played. Dave had not played it either, so we went with it. I took the Americans against Dave’s Germans. Dave’s attack came on strong for the first two turns, at it was 'sweaty palms' time for the Americans. But on American turn 2 Captain Speers arrived with two more platoons of paratroopers and two more bazookas and another much-needed .30 Cal. It was a hell of fight, but in the end, Dave just ran out of troops, and we called it an American victory. We both enjoyed this scenario greatly, and had a fun game. We both agreed we'd play it again as either side. This is officially one of my new favorites!
A new player, Dave Williams, joined us for most of the day, observing our games and getting a better handle on the rules, and it was a pleasure having him join us.
We had our usual excellent lunch at San Carlo Deli, and adjourned at 9:30 for dinner at The Habit. It was an excellent day all around!
