We had five members in attendance for the May installment of our ASL Game Day at the Guild House in Bellflower.
John Lehman and Dave Nicholas paired up for “First Ally” with Nick's Poles defeating John's Slovakians. And because they finished pretty quickly, the turned it around. In the second playing, Nick's Slovakians defeated John's Poles.
That left me, Blair Bellamy and Kyle Li to play the classic three-player scenario “Dogs of War”. I had not played this scenario in many years, and neither Blair nor Kyle had ever played it. Frankly, I forgot how much fun it is. I had the Partisans, Blair had the SS and Kyle had the ROA. Blair and Kyle formed an alliance during the first turn to help them break into the building. Unfortunately Kyle had some bad luck when a sniper KIA'd his 9-2 while leading his main kill-stack, and his surviving troops took the brunt of my 10-2 led HMG rate tear. I also had some pretty good luck creating reinforcements, and at one point had 4 squads and a hero in a building directly behind his assault. We ran out of time during the bottom of turn 4, with the SS in strength in the ground level of the victory building and Kyle's ROA about to turn on them. I had 5 partisan squads (including both leaders and both MG's) on levels 1 and 2 of the victory building. Turn 5 was going to be violent, and it was still anyone's game. Unfortunately due to time constraints we called it a draw.
If you have not played “Dogs of War” be sure to put it on your play list. It's fun as hell for all three sides.
We walked to Sizzler for lunch, and the survivors enjoyed a late dinner at Chris and Pit's Barbecue, which was great as always.
