We had a solid 8 members in attendance for our May Game Day at Emerald Knights:

Eric Visnowski and Mike Soffa squared off in the Deluxe scenario “Cry of the Valkyries” from Critical Hit, with Mike’s Russians defeating EV’s Germans.

Chip Wertenberger’s Germans defeated Dave Nicholas’ Russians in the Action Pack scenario “Shouting Into the Storm”.

Ed Esparza’s Brits fell to Kevin Kiff’s Germans in the early war scenario “The Amy H”.

And Dave Derizinski and I paired up for our first game ever. We went with the Pete Shelling scenario “Hell for the Holidays” from the Winter Offensive Pack. I took the attacking Germans against Dave’s defending Americans. I played pretty conservatively for the first 3 turns, well knowing Dave’s reputation as an adept counter-attacker. I was able to get my entire force intact up close to the victory buildings. But by the end of turn 3 it was obvious I was going to have to press my attack and take more risks if I was going to win. So starting on turn 4 I went after Dave’s tanks, scoring a couple of quick kills, and loaded my infantry into half tracks to break through the American defensive line. It turned into a wild swirling game of small local attacks and counter-attacks. When the smoke cleared on turn 6, Dave broke my last infantry squad trying to seize the last building I need for a win; game over. Wow, what a game. We both had a great time, but were both exhausted. This is a very complicated scenario with a lot of working parts.

We adjourned for our traditional chili dog lunch at Larry’s, where we were pleasantly surprised to have the lovely and charming Veronica back behind the counter. Ah, now I can say all is right in the world… J. The survivors made their usual trek to Bob’s Big Boy #1 for a late dinner. It was another great day of ASL!
