We had 10 members for the Memorial weekend edition of our ASL Game Day at JJ’s in Chatsworth. And we decided to go ‘old school’, for something different. How old? We’re takin’ three games in parallel of scenario C, “Streets of Stalingrad”, that combines “The Guards Counterattack” and “The Tractor Works”.

Mike Soffa’s Russians defeated Dave Rosner’s Germans. The other two games ran out of time, but both looked about 75% probable Russian wins by me and Nick Nicholas against Rob Stai and ‘Vegas’ Visnowski’s Germans, respectively. All three games were a blast, and we had great fun playing this classic scenario.

Our other old school scenario was between Blair Bellamy and bothers Sal and Jamie Palaez. Blair’s Americans defeated Sal and Jamie’s Germans in the classic Paratrooper scenario “Defiance on Hill 30”.

After their first game cleared, Blair and Sal took a re-match in “Handful of Howdy”, with Blair’s Americans defeating Sal’s Germans. “Handful” is a quick-playing scenario, and after this game Mike Soffa and a late-arriving Bill Yuen were available. So they re-booted this scenario with Mike and Bill taking the American’s against Blair’s Germans. Blair pulled off a hat trick with his third win of the day against Mike and Bill.

We had our usual excellent lunch at San Carlo Italian deli next door. And a sizable group of the survivors made their way to Marie Calendar’s for a late dinner, with pie. It was another excellent day of ASL!
