    Greetings Grognards,

Have a question regarding multi-hex FG & cowering. Mike C. and I were playing a scenario last night in which the following situation arose –

There was a multi-hex FG composed of a SMC and MMC in one hex and a single MMC in an ajoining hex. These units combined to creage a multi-hex FG. Obviously the leader wasn't able to apply his leadership modifier due to the mulit-hex situation, but is the leader still considered to be directing the attack? Doubles were rolled on the attack which would normally consistute a cowering situation, but if the attack was leader directed cowering is not an issue. Must the leader apply his leadership modifier to be considered leading the attack? Or can the leader lead the attack of a mulit-hex FG even though he cannot use his leadership modifier and thereby prevent cowering for all the MMC participating?

Follow-up question. Assuming the leader was not present, or if the leader is prohibited from directing the attack, if one of the squads was inexperienced and the other a regular 1st line and the cowering roll occured would the entire multi-hex FG be affected by the lowest quality unit? In other words, would the entire multi-hex FG cower two columns instead of the regular one because of the inexperienced squad being a member of the FG?

    Thanks,

    Nick

A single Leader can't direct a multi stack firegroup. If each stack in the firegroup has a leader, they can each direct their stack, making the entire firegroup immune to cowering (and using the worst leadership modifier). As far as the follow up question, yes.
