We had a total of 8 members for our November Game Day at Emerald Knights in Burbank:
Dan Plachta's Americans defeated John Lehman's Germans in the vintage ToT scenario “Thunderbolts”.
Blair Bellamy's Kiwi's defeated Sal Palaez' Germans in the classic glider landing scenario “Bofors Bashing”.
And because we initially started out with an odd number of players (or was that a number of odd players…) I took the Brits against Dave Rosner and Eric Visnowski as the Germans in “A Lion in the Field” from the ASLOK XXX pack. I didn't have a good feeling about this scenario from the start, though it looked cool enough. I'm always a little hesitant about scenarios with OBA; especially when the OBA is a critical aspect of the scenario, as it was in this case. I had some initial bad luck; missing the initial radio contact, then drawing a red card on a 9/2 deck. My AT Gun missed an easy kill shot against one of the German Pz IV's, then broke and was eliminated. Those small problems allowed Eric and Dave to get on a roll and maintain the momentum they needed for the win. There's no way two players as good them were going to make a mistake that would let me back into the game, and in the end I took my loss as the Germans. Now all that bitching is not intended to diminish the skill of my opponents. Both are fine players and deserved their win. But I think this scenario is a little fragile. It doesn't take much for it to go south for them. We had fun, but I'm not sure I'd jump on a chance to try this one again.
Dave Nicholas came late in the afternoon, just as Sal was leaving. He and Blair paired up and fucked around with some SK thing that I didn't get the name of.
We had our usual chili dog lunch, sans Veronica, who may have already left before we got there. And we adjourned at about 9:30 for our usual late dinner at Bob's Big Boy. Both meals were great as always.
Emerald Knights was pretty dead all day. I'm guessing because it was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but hey, more room for us, right?
