We had 8 players, plus cameo appearances from Scott Thompson and Karl Johnson for our November Game Day at Gameology:

Matt Cicero and his son Roman paired up for “Clash at Borosovka” with Roman, as the Germans, kicking his old man’s ass. Go Roman!

Dan Plachta and Blair Bellamy paired up for “Maximum” from the newest Friendly Fire pack. Dan’s Russians defeated Blair’s Germans. Both reported this scenario to be well worth the effort.

Chip Wertenberger’s Germans fell to John Lehman’s Russians in “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”, another scenario from the Friendly Fire pack.

And because their games cleared pretty early, Chip and Dan paired up for a replaying of “Maximum”, with Chip’s Russians defeating Dan’s Germans.

While all that was going on, Eric Visnowski and I paired up for (no surprise) a Deluxe scenario from the Leatherneck pack “Nightmare at Naha”. This is a big, 9 turn city fight set in Naha, Okinawa in 1945. The Marines get 15 squads (mix of 768 and 668’s) supported by 2 POA flame tanks and some Shermans, along with 4 DCs and a FT. The Japanese get a mixed quality force with two 47L’s and two 70*’s, plus 4 DC’s, MOL’s, Booby level A and a SAN of 5, and *set up entirely HIP*. We really didn’t expect to finish the scenario, since we didn’t get it underway until almost 4:00 PM, but it looked like too much fun to pass up. Luckily EV and I play very quickly together, and all I can say is: Wow! We slugged it out for 9 full turns, and it came down to my Japanese HS and two striped crews holding on to one hex in the victory building for the win over Eric’s Marines. EV and I have played some epic games over the years, but this one may have been the best one yet. We both had a blast and would both definitely like to play this one again.

As usual, we did our lunch trip to The Hat for pastrami, burgers, fries and onion rings (always perfect.) We wrapped up just at 10:00 PM. What a great turnout and a great day of ASL.
