We had 13 members in attendance for the October edition of our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights.
Geoff Coward’s Germans fell to Mike Cirrincione’s British in the Dispatches scenario “Land Sharkeyâ€.
Blair Bellamy and Sal Palaez paired up for two scenarios. In “Shlov’s Labors Lost†Blair’s Germans defeated Sal’s Russians. In “Traverse Right, Fire†Sal scored his first scenario victory when his Germans took down Blair’s Russians. Congratulations Sal!
Mike Soffa’s Russians defeated Dave Rosner’s Germans in “Into Vienna Woodsâ€.
Dave Nicholas’ Germans fell to Nadir Elfarra’s Americans in the W.O. Pack scenario “Counterattack at Carantan.â€
Dan Plachta, playing the Brits, took on Eric Visnowski and John Lehman, playing the Germans in “Batty Pâ€. After playing all day and with 2 turns still to go, they agreed to call it a draw.
The new Dispatches from the Bunker arrived early this past week, and I was dying to play any of the 4 scenarios included in that issue. Bill Yuen took up my challenge and chose the Indian-Japanese scenario “The Gin Drinker’s Lineâ€, and the dice gave him the attacking Japanese. It’s a quick playing, all infantry scenario with some interesting set-up restrictions and VC’s. Bill and I had a fun game, which thanks mostly to Bill’s awful dice rolling gave me the upper hand for the first 3 turns. But the game turned on turn 4 (the next to last) when Bill launched his first-ever Banzai attack into my main line and broke it. It still came down to the last CC phase, but Bill came away with a well-deserved win. This is a fun tournament size scenario that has a lot going on considering its size. We had a great time (as always.) I would happily play this one again as either side.
We had our usual chilidog lunch down the street at Larry’s, which never gets old. And the survivors made their way over to Bob’s Big Boy for our traditional late dinner.
It was another long but extremely enjoyable day of ASL. Great times with a great bunch of guys!
