We had three members in attendance for the LA Game Day at Gameology. We made the most with what we had, though. Dan Plachta and I took the Germans and Eric Visnowski took the Russians in “Pot of Stew†from the most recent Dispatches from the Bunker (#31). The scenario has secret simultaneous set-up, with both sides getting to set up anywhere on board. After the units are placed on the map, a die is rolled to see who moves first. There’s an interesting mechanism in the initial prep-fire phase that allows the defender to gun duel the attacker, but regardless, it’s a recipe for a slug fest with SS and Russian Guards blasting away at each other. Another interesting mechanism is included to allow both sides to purchase reinforcements on the second and third turns. It proved to be a very interesting and clever design.
In the end, it was clear that the Germans had built an insurmountable VP lead, and we wrapped it up at about 9:00 PM. The new owners have pushed the Saturday closing time to 10:00 PM, which will be handy at future meetings.
We enjoyed our usual great lunch at The Hat. It was another great day of ASL.
