We had 6 members for the October edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology:

Fen Yan's SS defeated Blair Bellamy's Russians in “Brave Little Emchas”.

Dave Nicholas' Russians defeated Dan Plachta's Germans in the heavy metal scenario “The Kings of Bollersdorf”.

And Peter Strand and I paired up for the ESG scenario “Mac Wants the Flamethrower”. The dice gave me the defending Germans against Peter's attacking Americans. This is a 'rescue' type scenario, where the Americans have to blast a clear path of road hexes across boards 1 and 20. The Americans get 27 squads, including some 7-4-7 assault engineers. The Germans get 19 mixed quality squads in two pockets, including a couple of 5-4-8's that arrive on turn 2. This scenario is all-infantry, so even with 46 squads on board and 6.5 turns, it's playable in one sitting.

The scenario is hard to grok for both sides. I decided to concentrate on one side. 27 American squads, including 3 MMG's and a .50 cal., represent a horrific amount of firepower. Peter brought his turn 1 force in on the German right, but had to go through a lot of open ground. Unfortunately for him, my dice were red-hot, and I rolled an incredible amount of 4's. The Americans took a terrible beating trying to gain a foothold in the city, and by turn 5 it was obvious that they just didn't have enough firepower left to get the job done. We called this a German win. We both had fun, and Peter kept a stiff upper lip while watching his troops get chewed up by German fire. The scenario has a very steep learning curve, and I think either side would benefit greatly from having played it once. We both thought we'd try it again some time.

Once again, Gameology's new location has proved to be an outstanding improvement over their old location. We had plenty of room to play and some great food options to choose from. We decided to walk across the parking lot to Farmer Boys for lunch. The survivors adjourned to Louie's Fish and Chicken for another excellent dinner.
