Howdy All,
Anyone up for yet another sub-forum ? I don't think we have done this yet. Kind of like an AAR with
some discussion . And since I am horrifically lazy I thought I would suggest that Matt Cicero treat us to
a treatise on the reknowned Vulcan's Forge [ MP 11 ] From SOCALASL Melee pack 2.Vulcan's Forge has garnered accolades from ASL players worldwide , is included in many
ASL tournaments and has been the subject of discussion in other forums. Matt, together with Bryan Earll
developed Vulcan's Forge using a section of the Red barricades map and uses an unsual set up method
to get the ball rolling.So.. .Matt and Bryan , and others that have playtested or just played Vulcan's Forge, can you add your two cents
in and see if this concept works? I would, of course but sadly I have never played the scenario! I just
bought the RB map set a week ago.ev

I think the popularity of VF is due mainly to the setup mechanics and control over reinforcement selections/timings. People have stated that they like the variability that this allows, making for a new gaming experience each time they play it. Think about why Urban Guerillas is so popular (though I've never played it)…it is the variability that the random events bring to each playing that gives it such high marks. VF delivers much of the same variability through the setup mechanics and reinforcement selection/timing.
Some day, if Matt and Bryan ever start playing again, perhaps we'll see another gem from them…or maybe they have rested on their laurels for so long that they have lost all of their mojo and are incapable of matching their previous efforts. :p
Semper Fi!

With the popularity of VF more or less established, how do you play this?
What are some of the concepts one needs focus on in the set- up? Is
there a single winning strategy for either side? What , if any, specific
pitfalls await either side? I have read some comments on other forums
that indicate a slight bias for the Russian player. What is your experience with VF?ev
March 11, 2011 at 9:28 pm #6060rdfMemberMy suggestion for balance is to bid for the Russian by VC location…. I wouldn't be too aggressive though.
Funny thing about playing again, Matthew and I were just talking about which campaign we'd like to play… Red Barricades or Tarawa.
