We had 7 members, plus a late-afternoon arrival of a new SK player named Brian that we met last month.

Dan Plachta's Germans defeated Eric Visnowski's Brits in the Deluxe scenario “Tussle at Thomashof”. After their game cleared, Dan was kind enough to walk through scenario SK1 with our new player Brian, who was so impressed with the game when he saw it last month he bought SK1, read the rules, and showed up late in the afternoon for a tutorial.

Scott Thompson and Stance Nixon squared off for an all-day slugfest, with Scott's Slovakians eventually defeating Stance's Hungarians in “Last Minute War”.

That left me, Dave Lewis and Ed Esparza, and we set up “The Meatgrinder”, with Ed taking the Russians against me and DL as the Germans. DL took the German infantry and I took the armor. Ed had an excellent initial set-up, with his KV-2's and the 76LL AT Gun in mutually supportive positions. DL and I had a hard time of it, and by turn 3 all three of our PzIV's were knocked out. And though we had infantry adjacent to both KV's, they all failed their PAATC's, paying dearly when the KV's opened up at point blank in the following Russian Prep. But on turn 4 things turned in favor of the Germans, when they took out the 76LL and kicked in the front door. The PzIII's broke into the Russian rear, and the KV's couldn't be everywhere to stem the tide. We called it a German win on the bottom of turn 5. Although the final result was a little lopsided, DL and I both thought it could well have gone the other way; we were clearly in trouble on turn 3. We thought it was a fun and exciting game.

We made our usual trip to Sizzler for lunch, though Scott and Ed opted for the quicker and much cheaper Burger King option. The survivors, joined by Stance's wife Cheryl, met for a late BBQ dinner at Chris and Pit's. It was another relaxing and enjoyable day at The Guild House.
