We had 10 members, plus a cameo appearance from Dave Rosner, for the September edition of our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights.

Dan Plachta’s Poles defeated Bill Yuen’s Germans in “The Head of the Mace.”

Sal Palaez’s Germans fell to Blair Belamy’s Russians in “The Puma Prowls”.

Geoff Coward’s Japanese defeated Eric Visnowski’s Marines in the Classic Tarawa scenario “Ryan’s Orphans”.

Chip Wertenberger’s Germans took out Dave Derizinski’s Russians in “The Nutcracker”. Dave and Chip go way back, and it was fun to just hear their banter through the day as their game went on.

And Dave Nicholas and I paired up for the Dispatches scenario “Let’s Dance”. I have an unhappy history with this scenario. I had previously suffered two crushing defeats in “Let's Dance” at the hands of my old friend Dave Goldman a couple of years ago. And I know it’s balanced because I lost once as each side. J So in an attempt to redeem my previous defeats, I agreed to try this one again with Dave. The dice gave me the attacking Brits. By turn 3 it looked like I was going to see a repeat of my previous experiences with this scenario when my 10-2 and 6-4-8 were KIA'd by a German DC. But eventually I was able to get a crossfire on the VC building and Dave's Germans started dying for failure to rout. Though it was close, I managed to squeeze out a sudden death victory on turn 5. Dave played his usual fine game, and we had great fun, as we always do.

We made our usual trek to Larry's for chili dogs served by the ever lovely and talented Veronica. And at 10:00 PM we made our usual trip to Bob's Big Boy for a late dinner. What a great way to spend a Saturday!
