We had six members in attendance for the Labor Day weekend edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology.
Dan Plachta and Blair Bellamy paired up for “Corianoâ€, with Dan’s Brits defeating Blair’s Germans.
In a day long slug-fest Chip Wertenberger’s Americans bested Eric Visnowski’s Germans in the WO pack scenario “Hell for the Holidaysâ€.
And Dave Nicholas and I paired up for the early war Schwerepunkt scenario “Beaufort’s Feastâ€. I know I played this one when it first came out, but I really didn’t remember much about it except that it was a good scenario. It proved to be a good choice. It’s a meeting engagement between a company strength German force backed by a mixed bag of five panzers facing a larger, well-led French force backed by six H-35’s.
The French have the armor advantage in this one, and as the French player I concentrated on killing off the German armor while my infantry slogged forward. It was a fun and exciting fight, with an interesting armor battle. Dave’s Germans had the upper hand in the mid-game, with one of his panzer III’s squirting into the French backfield and hosing down a stack of French squads. I rolled 3 boxcars in a row on the MC’s, and what started as three 1st line squads (2 broken and one good order) ended up as one broken green HS. BTW; the odds of rolling 3 boxcars (or snakes) in a row is over 46,000 to 1. In the end, the weight of the French numerical advantage combined with armor superiority prevailed, and I walked away with a hard won victory. Dave, as always, played a great game and we had a lot of fun.
We made our usual trek to The Hat for lunch, and that was enjoyable as always.
