We had a solid six members for the September edition of the SoCalASL Game Day at Gameology:

Dan Plachta’s SS force defeated Eric Visnowski’s Americans in the Deluxe (what else) scenario “Snake Ready to Strike.”

Blair Bellamy’s Germans were defeated by Dave Nicholas’ Americans in “Twilight at Baerendorf”. And because their game cleared fairly early, the paired up again for “Few and Far Between”, with Dave’s Dutch soldiers defeating Blair’s Germans.

And Chip Wertenberger and I paired up for the VotG scenario “Storming the Station.” Our plan was to set this up, get a couple of turns in, then complete it at Chip’s house in a couple of weeks. We diced for sides and Chip got the Russians. We played through turn 3. I utterly mucked up my turn 2 attack into the station; so much so Chip’s very light infantry force easily repulsed my 8-3-8’s. But my supermen came roaring back on turn 3 for another (much better handled) try, and this time they cleared it. Honestly, this just wasn’t Chip’s scenario. He had two chances to bag my 10-2 led StuG with AT mines, and missed both rolls, then another with street fighting and still another with Mol’s, but missed an effect on both rolls by 1. His heavy mortar was in a great position to whack an oncoming 8-3-8 stack; missed the first shot and then boxed the second. His AT gun was in a perfect position to take out another StuG with an under-belly hit, but boxed his first shot. After turn 3 the Germans had broken into the main Russian line and it was pretty much over. At the end of the evening we decided that it just wasn’t worth recording to continue at a later date. We called it a day with a German victory.

We made our usual trip to The Hat for lunch. Though there was a Magic tournament going on for part of the day, Kevin made sure we had enough table space to play. All in all, it was another great day of ASL.
