For those playing the starter kits there may be an SK VASL League starting Jan '09. The link can be found at gamesquad.com forums http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78885&referrerid=19729
If it goes it will be formed by the same individuals that operate the VASL League http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71040&referrerid=19729

Tried the link and got
ERROR 404 – PAGE NOT FOUND
October 22, 2008 at 9:24 pm #5479King ScottMemberI have entered a number of VASL tourneys in the past few years, and found both good and bad with them.
Good – Get to play against people all over the world without the expense of travel. Varying skill levels of opponents helps improve your game. Get to see some of the “regional playing styles” in action. Make new ASL friends. Pleay more ASL than you would without it.
Bad – Difficult to coordinate VASL time if playing live and opponent is not in the same time zone (ever try to coordinate FTF VASL with someone in Australia or Sweden?). High number of games not finished/started due to opponents disappearing. High number of “buys” and “forfeits” due to opponents disappearing throws off the competitive results.
All in all, I would recommend joing a VASL league if you have the time, but I would warn you to be prepared for some forfeited rounds and possible mis-match of skill levels…still a lot of fun, just things to keep in the back of your mind so as not to get bummed out if it happens.

ScottOctober 22, 2008 at 10:16 pm #5480Paul SimonsenMemberHey guys, here are the correct links. When using the link button for forms inside the bracket it says link=hyper link end bracket. You need to replace the text “hyper link” with the actual link. That is the true link used for the linking process (link
So, here is the correct link (I updated his original post as well.

No Problem!!!
November 5, 2008 at 9:40 pm #5484King ScottMemberThey've posted the details for the SK VASL League over at the GS forums.. here's a copy/paste:
SK League 2009
SK League is an individual annual ASL tourney, at its First Edition, played mainly via internet with the following rules:
1 Swiss System.
1.1 Swiss System is used for pairings and classification;
1.2 There are 5 rounds of 2 months of duration each beginning on 1st January 2009; round two begins on 1st March, round 3 begins on 1st May and so on…
1.21 If the SK league has less than 16 players there are only four rounds.
1.22. Three points are awarded for a victory and one point for a draw.
1.3 If two or more players finish the league with the same number of points, the following rules will be applied for determination of final ranking:1.3 a) Result of the game played by the players with the same number of points, or if there are more than two and they have all played each other, the relative classification inside this mini sub-league;
1.3 b) Number of the round of the first game lost (the later the better);
1.3 c) Best opponents met (Buholz tiebreaker);
1.3 d) A draw will be done;2 No PbeM.
2.1 The matches will be played on the VASL server live or face-to-face by default.
2.12 PBEM game is allowed only if both players agree.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please don't subscribe if you already know you cannot guarantee in the two months limit (60 days) enough time to play even a small or medium sized SK scenario live on the VASL server!2.2 Scenarios and sides are freely chosen by the players, balances included. Any SK scenario may be chosen. It is strongly recommended to choose scenarios according to the time and the experience both players have. If no agreement is reached the TD will contact both players and choose the scenario drawing the sides.
2.22 Nobody can play twice the same scenario, even switching sides.
2.221 At least in round 4 and in round 5 players must play scenarios using rules for SK 2 or SK 3. Both players however can mutually agree to use SK 1 rules in all their games, but if no scenario using SK 2/3 rules is played during the tournament, then that player, even if he’s the final winner, cannot claim the right to be promoted in the TOP VASLeague in season 2010 (see below 5.1)
2.23 If a scenario will not be finished by the 2 months period and the players are unable to decide an outcome (a winning or a draw), the TD will determine the final result with a draw made in public.
2.3 Players are kindly requested to find an agreement on the result of the game and ask for the judge intervention only if any agreement is impossible.
2.4 The player who is mainly responsible for the missed game or for a delay that makes impossible to end the scenario in time should admit his fault giving the win to the opponent.
2.5 If the players are unable to agree on the responsible both loses the game unless the TD has a clear evidence that a player is the main responsible.
2.6 Please note that no investigation is possible on the reasons of the delay even if asked or requested to the TD.3 TD and assistants
3.1 The TD is helped by two assistants for every situation or problem that will arise during matches, his decisions being final.
3.2 The assistants are Nicotum (Nicola Marangon) and Gheba (Mario Nadalini).4. Subscription
4.1 Anyone (not currently suscribed in VASLeague) can join the SK league.
4.2 The registration – starting 1St November – is open until December 30th, 2008. On December 31st, 2008 there will be a draw for the first round and from January 1st, 2009 the matches may start.
4.4 With the registration all players accept these rules and give automatically to the TD the permission to send and share their email addresses to all other SK Leaguers for tournament purpose. If you want keep private your address please create an “ad hoc†email for the tournament.5 Promotion for 2009
5.1 The winner will be admitted in the TOP VASLeague of 2010. The promotion however is not mandatory as anyone could decide to stay in the SK league.
If the winner declines the runner up will be promoted instead.6 Abandoning
6.1 We aim to have a SK League full of *real players*. Thus no player can win any VASLeague or simply be promoted to it if has even a single forfeit in any of the five rounds.
6.2 Besides if in a tourney a player forfeits two matches he is immediately cancelled from that league. The next year that player will start from a minor league available (or from the SK League) if he will register again.
6.2.1 A forfeited game is a game not played at all. An interrupted game or a game not finished in time as well an early resign after the game has just started is treated simply a lost game.
6.3. The last active player of a table, if odd for a previous cancellation, gains an automatic “Bye†against a “dummy†player. Nobody in a tourney can gain more than one “Byeâ€.
6.4 Past years experience shows how people forfeiting their very first game usually forfeits another round being thus cancelled. For this reason who forfeits his FIRST round is immediatly cancelled (no reason to wait a second forfeit that happens 95% of the times).7 Prizes
7.1 For 2009 the First Prize for winning the SK League is a ASLRB
Everyone may add new prizes for specific spots or achievements ( in the various leagues) .
7.2 Registration is free of charge.
Please write to VASLeague@gmail.com for questions and clarifications
Have fun!The VASLeague Staff, November 1, 2008
Here'a a chance for us newbs to get some extra playtime (and possibly win a rulebook!). Hope to see the other SK noobs there!
November 5, 2008 at 11:02 pm #5486King ScottMemberBest of luck to you Stephan!
I turned down my promotion to the Top league…I'd rather stay in the “local” minor league so that my opponents will be in the same (or very near) time zone. With school, my playing time is extremely limited (it's on the Endangered Species List), and I can't immagine that I'd be able to coordinate a small playing window with oppenents in a world-wide league (lots of Europeans and East Coast players in the Top league).
OK Cicero…here's your chance to tease me that I'm afraid to play in the big leagues and question my playing skills in general. (It's all true by the way…I *AM* afraid! ha ha)
