We had four members in attendance for our Special 5th Saturday playtest day. We decided to focus on “You Dirty Serafimovich” (v2.1). I paired up with Jim Svette, and Eric Visnowski paired up with Dave Nicholas. Nick and I has the defending Russians, with Eric and Jim as the Germans. This is a simple, but interesting 'capture the town' kind of scenario, where the Germans have a company of infantry supported by three StuG IIIB's and the Russians have two platoons of infantry supported by a 37L AA Gun and two 45LL AT Guns. It's a challenge for both sides; the Russians barely have enough infantry and have a play a very cagey game. On the other hand, the Germans are attacking across a lot of open ground and need their StuG's for support. But loosing StuG's cost a lot of VP, so they need to be used judiciously.
Jim and I got our game going faster and were well ahead of Eric and Nick's game. So we had enough time to turn it around and try again. In the end, we had two German victories and one Russian. All four of us felt the scenario was pretty much finished, and ready for a final round of testing.
We had our usual lunch at The Hat, and wrapped up around 8:00 PM. It was an excellent and productive day!
